Trooper of the Week!
This week, we recognized CPL Jesse R. Sandoval from Comanche Troop as Trooper of the Week. CPL Sandoval is from San Antonio, Texas and is serving as a Squad Leader in Comanche Troop mortar section. CPL Sandoval sets a high standard, providing recommendations to his NCO’s, and continuing to mentor and provide guidance to his subordinates. He was critical in managing moving the Brigade’s tracked vehicle fleet down Funston Trail to rail head. Providing recommendations and refining ex*****on to improve traffic flow and safe movement of vehicles.

To close out a week of hard work, 5th Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment held a closeout formation to recognize six outstanding Soldiers. They received a coin from our brigade commander Colonel Smith for their exceptional service and commitment to excellence, which has greatly enhanced the squadron's readiness ahead of the deployment to the National Training Center.

Furthermore, Corporal Rogers was honored with two Army Commendation Medals and a brigade coin by Colonel Smith and CSM Long for being recognized as the brigade's Soldier of the Quarter and Soldier of the Year.

Leaders of 5-4 CAV gathered for our quarterly Hail and Farewell in the Blue Sage Barn at Prairiewood. We welcomed several new leaders into the Squadron. The squadron bid farewell to 1LT Drobney as he prepares to take the next step in his career.

The team participated in a 'Your Favorite Movie Character' theme for the evening and the the competition between the Troops. Congratulations to Dakota Troop for having the best costumes!

5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment started the morning with a squadron PT competition. The competition tested our Soldiers' physical fitness, ability to conduct land navigation, and their knowledge of enemy combat systems with vehicle identification tests at each station.

Comanche won the competition and was awarded the squadron's PT competition streamer. Apache finished in second place and HHT took third. Congratulations to all the Troopers who competed in today's competition!

5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment will be hosting an NTC information session for Soldiers and families at Morris Hill Chapel on August 7, 2024 one in the afternoon at 1530 and an evening session at 1830. 5th Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment welcomed two, newly promoted First Sergeants to the squadron this week: James Hutcheson from Tomahawk Troop and Fabricio Granados from Dakota Troop. We appreciate the knowledge and dedication of 1SG Michael Synder and the motivation and determination of 1SG Kyle Norlin, both of whom have made a positive impact on their respective troops.

Additionally, 5-4 CAV hosted a Hail and Farewell ceremony at the Milford Lake Conference Center, welcoming new service members and bidding farewell to those transitioning to other assignments or retirement.

As Victory Week came to a close, 5th Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment would like to highlight a few memorable moments.

On Day 2, 5-4 CAV participated in two events: bowling and volleyball, with great enthusiasm and determination narrowly missing victory against their opponents.

On Day 3, 5-4 CAV competed in flag football, winning their first game decisively with a score of 42-20 and displaying admirable determination on their close loss in their second game.

On Day 4, 5-4 CAV made a hole in one and took first place in the golf scramble! Following that win, SPC Foster took first place, winning heavy weight in combatives. LTC Gary Klein showcased his athletic prowess in the Victory Road Race demonstrating unwavering spirit against a field of competitors. In the end, he secured a 5th place finish!

Long Knife is blazing a trail for the rest of the U.S. Army! We were selected to test and provide feedback on the new Army Training Information System (ATIS)-Army Training Management Capability (ATMC). Over the next few months we will help transform how the Army manages training at the unit level.

MODERNIZING THE ARMY TRAINING MANAGEMENT CAPABILITY
Last week, members of the Agile Release Train from Product Manager, Army Training Information System (ATIS) held a site visit with 5th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Riley, Kansas to set the conditions for the Army Training Management Capability (ATMC) Limited Release 1 (LR1) development, training, testing, and evaluation to ensure it is operationally relevant, value added, and intuitive.

Long Knife Friends and Family,
We would like to highlight some events within the 5th Squadron 4th Cavalry Regiment. On Tuesday, May 21st, Comanche Troop held a change of responsibility. We are going to miss 1SG Jeremy Cook's tenacity as a senior NCO, but we welcome 1SG Mathew Hofmann as the new Comanche 7.

On Wednesday May 22nd, Long Knife leaders participated in a dining-in event for the Order of Saint George. Service members received a medal for their honorable service towards the Armor and Cavarly community. CPT Haeffner and CPT Grace both recieved Order of Saint George medals.

We had two changes of command on Thursday, May 23rd, for Comanche 6 and Dakota 6. We are are going to miss CPT Jordan Haeffner's leadership, and we welcome CPT Norah Stapleton as the new commanding officer for Comanche. CPT Morgan Grace's motivation will be missed, but we welcome CPT Garrett Locke as the new commanding Officer for Dakota.
