Seminar workshop on Promoting Sustainable Rubber Development in the Lower Mekong Region was held on 17 March 2023, Vientiane, Lao PDR at NAFRI meeting Hall
which aim to share and discuss the latest research results and outputs related to rubber plantation and its impacts on the environment and socio-economic development in the lower Mekong region and this workshop exchange knowledge and information on best practices, strategies, technologies, and policies related to the sustainable management and utilization of rubber plantation and its impacts on the environment and socio-economic development in the region. This will allow participants to identify key challenges and solutions that can help achieve sustainable rubber plantation practice in the lower Mekong region. The Rural Development Administration (RDA) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Royal Government of Bhutan will be hosting the Sixth Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) General Assembly in Thimphu, Bhutan from August 29 to 31, 2022.

Serving as the biennial convention of the 15 member countries, the event entails the discussion and knowledge-sharing of technologies that address emerging agricultural issues in the Asian region.

It also serves as a venue for reviewing and evaluating existing regulations, selecting new officials, and determining new projects for AFACI.

For the incoming sixth GA, member countries and partner organizations will be enjoined to take a stronger commitment to the UN SDG Goal of ending hunger, food insecurity, and all forms of malnutrition by 2030 through a joint resolution on food security.

Another significant highlight will be the approval of the country membership of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) is an inter-governmental and multilateral cooperation program of RDA that supports developing and disseminating agricultural technologies to promote sustainable food production and boost economic opportunities in the Asian region.

Current AFACI member countries include Korea, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
