👉From July 10-11, 2024, the Houaphan Provincial Health Insurance Office (PHIO) conducted claim verification monitoring for Q2 (April-June) 2024 in Xiengkhor District and nine Health Centers (HCs). This monitoring aimed to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data recorded and reported by health facilities. The data was then compared with the ATD system to verify its validity before PHI reimburses capitation payments to these health facilities. PHI also provided on-site training to identify any weaknesses in the data collection process. Following the monitoring, a meeting was held with the district health insurance committee team and the 9 HCs to share the results of the claim verification monitoring and discuss the next action plan.

Handover Ceremony of Oudomxay Laboratory Expansion
On July 13, 2024, the Provincial Health Department and Oudomxay Provincial Hospital celebrated the official handover of the expanded laboratory at Oudomxay Provincial Hospital. This important facility upgrade was supported by funding from the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH).
The ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Phayvanh Keopaseuth, Vice-Minister of Health, and co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Somchit Panyasack, Vice-Governor of Oudomxay Province, and Ms. Hyunkyong KIM, KOFIH Country Director in Lao PDR. Distinguished guests from relevant central and provincial government departments attended the event.
This expanded laboratory will significantly enhance the diagnostic capabilities of Oudomxay Provincial Hospital, allowing them to provide higher quality and more comprehensive healthcare services to the local community.

On 4 July 2024, MCH teams from the provincial and Nonghet district together with KOFIH conducted MCH monitoring at Keobone HC in Nonghet district, Xiengkhouang province. The purpose of the visit was to review MCH implementation indicators for the period of January - May 2024 and ensure data accuracy between daily recording books, monthly reports, and the DHIS2 system. Additionally, the teams provided on-site training to HC staff based on any identified weaknesses.

🎉🎊 We would like to inform you about the latest news from XK PH starting this Wednesday (03-07-2024), the hospital has been conducting GDM (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus) tests for high-risk pregnant women. Since early June, knowledge-sharing sessions have been held for medical staff. At a workshop last week, a trainer from the capital also provided training on managing mothers confirmed to have GDM.

From June 24 to 28, a five-day EMCTC training workshop organized by WHO-KOFIH is being held in Xiengkhuang province. The workshop includes programs on managing high-risk pregnancies, such as anemia during pregnancy, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes, as well as referral guidelines and hands-on training for the 75g OGTT test for diagnosing GDM. During this event, the KOFIH-MANGO project team from Xiengkhuang PH promoted the use of the mobile referral logbook form they developed, received feedback from the workshop participants, and distributed souvenirs, which received an enthusiastic response!

🧑‍⚕️👩‍⚕️On June 17, 2024, Xiengkhuang Provincial Hospital celebrated Lao Medical Staff Day, a tradition for nearly 59 years. Our PMC team participated in the festivities alongside the medical staff at Xiengkhuang Provincial Hospital. Medical staff from the 101 Soldier hospital and Xiengkhuang College of Health Science also attended. The celebration included games as well as dancing. We would like to express deep gratitude to the medical staff for their hard work. 🩵

On June 4, 2024, the MANGO team visited Kham District Hospital (DH), a Type-A DH located in Xiengkhuang province. During our visit, we received a warm welcome and began our investigation at the hospital. We assessed the difficulties in transferring high-risk mothers and checked for any shortages of drugs and supplies as we toured the hospital. Through our cooperation with Kham DH, we are taking a step closer to our goal of strengthening the referral system.

The patient and medical staff satisfaction surveys we previously mentioned have been completed, and we would like to inform you of the results of the medical staff satisfaction survey briefly.

33.9% were doctors, 50.9% were nurses, and 63.4% had worked in the medical service field for over 10 years.
The majority of participants rated themselves as satisfied, however, when asked whether they had ever run out of medical supplies while on the job, about 90% of medical staff said there was a shortage.
In conclusion, the current level of satisfaction among medical staff at PH was found to be moderate. The factors hindering satisfaction were the insufficient number of medical staff, the resulting heavy workload per person, and insufficient medicines and medical equipment.

Medicines and medical equipment will be supported through QI activities. Please look forward to the next research results!

The KOFIH Global Alumni (KGA) Activities provide grants to alumni of the Dr. LEE Jong-Wook Fellowship Program who are working in the Lao healthcare system. These grants support the alumni in sharing their experiences and implementing projects to improve their skills and knowledge, with the ultimate goal of strengthening the Lao healthcare system.

On 9th and 10th May 2024, the Xiengkhouang Provincial Health Insurance Office (PHIB) conducted claim verification monitoring for Q1 (January-March) 2024 in Mork district and 5HCs. The purpose was to check the accuracy and discrepancies in data among recording, reporting, and to compare it to the ATD system before PHI reimburses the capitation to health facilities. Additionally, PHI provided on-site training to identify weak points and held a wrap-up meeting with the district health insurance committee and the 5HCs to share the results of the monitoring, as well as future plans.

On May 14th, 2024, KOFIH held a meeting at Xiengkhouan Provincial Hospital and Health Science College to share the 3-level (Basic/Mid/High) Nursing Core Skills Book and video materials developed by the Inje Korean University team as part of the project on the Faculty of Nursing Science, University of Health Science (UHS). These materials will be useful for strengthening the capacity of nursing personnel in both the hospital and the college. Ms. Viengmone Padthavongsa, Deputy Director of XK Provincial Hospital, and Dr. Saymanolom Mangnormek, Director of the Health Science College, attended the meeting and expressed their gratitude.

ໃນວັນທີ 14 ພຶດສະພາ 2024, ອົງການ ໂກຟີ ໄດ້ຈັດກອງປະຊຸມທີ່ໂຮງໝໍແຂວງຊຽງຂວາງ ແລະ ວິທະຍາໄລວິທະຍາສາດສຸຂະພາບ ເພື່ອແບ່ງປັນປຶ້ມທັກສະການພະຍາບານ 3 ລະດັບ (ພື້ນຖານ/ກາງ/ສູງ) ແລະ ທາງຄຣິບ ວີດີໂອ ທີ່ທີມງານມະຫາວິທະຍາໄລເກົາຫຼີ ອິນຈີ ພັດທະນາຂຶ້ນເປັນສ່ວນໜຶ່ງຂອງໂຄງການໃຫ້ຄະນະວິທະຍາສາດການພະຍາບານ, ມະຫາວິທະຍາໄລວິທະຍາສາດສຸຂະພາບ (UHS). ອຸປະກອນເຫຼົ່ານີ້ຈະເປັນປະໂຫຍດສໍາລັບການເສີມສ້າງຄວາມສາມາດຂອງບຸກຄະລາກອນພະຍາບານທັງໃນໂຮງຫມໍແລະວິທະຍາໄລ. ທ່ານ ນາງ ວຽງມອນ ປັດທະວົງສາ ຮອງຫົວໜ້າໂຮງໝໍແຂວງຊຽງຂວາງ ແລະ ທ່ານ ດຣ ສາຍມະໂນລົມ ມັງຫນໍເມກ ອຳນວຍການວິທະຍາໄລວິທະຍາສາດສຸຂະພາບ ເຂົ້າຮ່ວມ ແລະ ສະແດງຄວາມຂອບໃຈ.

On 16th May 2024, MCH teams of provincial and KOFIH conducted MCH monitoring and supervision at Ban dor HC in Kham district, Xiengkhouang province to see MCH implementation indicators performance from Jan – April 2024 together with checking the accuracy of data among daily recording book, monthly report and DHIS2 system as well as to provide on-site training to HC staff base on finding weak points.

On 7th May 2024, the MCH teams from the provincial and district levels, along with KOFIH, conducted MCH monitoring and supervision at Ladbuak HC in Peak district, Xiengkhouang province. The purpose was to assess the performance of MCH implementation indicators from January to April 2024, and to verify the accuracy of data recorded in the daily recording book, monthly report, and DHIS2 system. Additionally, onsite training was provided to HC staff based on identified areas of improvement.

On 26th March 2024, the Houaphan Provincial Health Insurance Office (PHIO) conducted a claim verification monitoring review for Q4 (October-December) 2023 in the Hiem district, which covered 3HCs. On 19 March 2024, Under the fund supported from Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) Office in Lao PDR, The Academic Affair Cabinet (AAC) organized the finalizing workshop to get inputs from the relevant faculties and offices on the Educational Quality Control Guideline for the University of Health Sciences (UHS). There was total of 25 participants from all related faculties and offices within UHS attending, chaired by Dr. Khampasong Setthavanxay, Vice-Rector of UHS. The guideline has combined the standards on quality education from the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Guideline from the Ministry of Health. It aims to standardize of quality education control and benefit to all related offices, institutes, and faculties accordingly. On 22 March 2024, Under the fund supported from Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) Office in Lao PDR, the Faculty of Medicine (FoM) conducted a handover ceremony on the Improvement of Teaching-Learning Environment for the Faculty of Medicine. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bounthome Samountry, the rector of UHS chaired the remarkable event and there were participants from FoM, UHS’s cabinet office, Rector’s Office, private company, and students from FoM attending. The improvement aimed to make the educational and effective environment of teaching-learning suitable for the actual implementation of the new developed and revises curricula under FoM. As a result, this helped to improve the high level of knowledge and capability in teaching-learning for professors and students under FoM professionally. On 22nd March 2024, KOFIH and NCMCH held the First Quarterly TWG Meeting which attended by the participants from Cabinet, DPF, DHHP, WHO, Kore University team and four Provincial Health Offices (XK, HP, PSL and ATP ). This meeting is aimed to achieve the following purpose:
1. Exchange the implementation progress of the RMNCAH project in phase III (2022-2027).
2. Exchange preparation for the appointment of the project steering committee by NCMCH.
3. Discuss the technical aspects of project implementation to improve and support the partner's ability to work better in the future.
ໃນວັນທີ 22 ມີນາ 2024, ອົງການໂກຟີ ແລະ ໄດ້ຈັດກອງປະຊຸມວິຊາການປະຈໍາໄຕມາດທໍາອິດ ເຊິ່ງມີຜູ້ເຂົ້າຮ່ວມຈາກຫ້ອງການກະຊວງ, ກົມແຜນ ແລະ ການເງີນ, ກົມອະນາໄມແລະ ສົ່ງເສີມສຸຂະພາບ, ອົງການອະນາໄມໂລກ, ທີມງານຊ່ຽວຊານຂອງມະຫາວິທະຍາໄລເກົາຫຼີ ແລະ ພະແນກສາທາລະນະສຸກ4ແຂວງ (ຊຂ, ຫພ, ຜສລ ແລະ ອຕປ). ກອງປະຊຸມຄັ້ງນີ້ແມ່ນເພື່ອບັນລຸຈຸດປະສົງດັ່ງນີ້:
1. ແລກປ່ຽນຄວາມຄືບໜ້າການຈັດຕັ້ງປະຕິບັດໂຄງການ RMNCAH ໃນໄລຍະ III (2022-2027).
2. ແລກປ່ຽນຜົນກະກຽມການແຕ່ງຕັ້ງຄະນະຊີ້ນຳໂຄງການໂດຍ NCMCH.
3. ປຶກສາຫາລືດ້ານເຕັກນິກວິຊາການຈັດຕັ້ງປະຕິບັດໂຄງການ ເພື່ອປັບປຸງ ແລະ ສະໜັບສະໜູນຄວາມສາມາດຂອງຄູ່ຮ່ວມງານເຮັດວຽກໃຫ້ດີຂື້ນກວ່າເກົ່າໃນອະນາຄົດນີ້.

On March 21st and 22nd, 2024, The 5-year summary meeting of the Strengthening Management System of Medical Equipment (SMSME) project in Lao PDR occurred at Napakuang Resort in Vientiane Province, Laos. The meeting involved 82 participants, including key participants such as Dr. Soulisak Sounvorlavong, Deputy Director General of the Department of Food and Drugs; Dr. Khamsai Dethleusay, Director General of the Department of Healthcare and Rehabilitation; Dr. Many Thammavong, Director of the Medical Product Supply Center (MPSC), and Ms. Hyunkyong Kim, Country Director of KOFIH Office in Lao PDR. Representatives from the Cabinet Office and directors from central and provincial hospitals were also present.
The purpose of this meeting was to evaluate the outcomes of the first phase of project implementation, led by the main implementor (MPSC) and involving five target provinces. Additionally, the meeting aimed to assess the demand for strengthening medical equipment across all hospitals in Laos and the insights gathered during this meeting will guide the direction of the second phase of the project

On 15 March 2024, Under the fund supported from Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) Office in Lao PDR, the Institute of Research and Education Development (IRED) conducted the kick-off training, chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kongmany Chareunvong, the director of IRED, on the initiation of e-library system at Central Library of the University of Health Sciences (UHS). There were total of 18 people from IRED and software system development company attending. The company has developed the Front Office and Back Office for the initiation of e-library system. For instance, initially, new electronic equipment for the library have been applied namely: Magnet detecting door, magnet detecting strip imbedded in the books, scanning machine, and computer to track all of the book management. This will bring great benefit to students, researchers, and professors from all faculties and office within the UHS to access onsite and online and increase the quality of education as a whole.
