She led with much grace, a regular smile and a tenacious mindset of focusing on what mattered. She touched lives... residents and staff alike and her absence will greatly affect our community. Not that uncommon to see our residents sitting around chatting with one another, sipping a drink while coloring. Such a simple, therapeutic activity that brings us back to our younger days. No one seems to mind the feel good calmness and creativity it brings!

Our leaders were honored to participate in a recent course through NIC Academy focused on Value-Based Care (VBC) — a transformative model reshaping the senior housing and care industry.

At Bickford, we’ve already adopted VBC across all of our branches through our HigherPath Senior Health model — a proactive, data-informed approach that improves resident outcomes by leveraging strong provider partnerships and technology to guide clinical decision-making.

Through this model, we’ve seen measurable improvements in resident health, longer lengths of stay, and a reduction in falls—all key indicators of enhanced quality of life.

The NIC Academy course reinforced the powerful impact VBC can have across the industry and equips operators with even more tools to:

I'd like to mention & highlight our faith oriented activity happening here regularly. As seen in the special picture, we host a bible study every Sunday afternoon. St. Francis Catholic Church and Lutheran Church of Hope visit every Sunday, here in our community for Sunday service. We have an additional worship hour every other Thursday and one additional Catholic Service, first Wednesday morning of each month. Lastly, we share devotions & enjoy hymn singing regularly. Everything is non denominational and all are welcome! The resident's remind us how much God is a part of our daily lives and how wonderful it is to have our community so blessed!

We are always so curious to see what new scene our 'puzzlers' are working on! Whether that's several playing together, or solo w/ one... those little pieces we try to connect, seem to often know exactly how to calm our spirit and effortlessly, work our minds!

There are new faces and new things happening in our Mary B Memory Care. In a soft surrounded, home like environment we are able to provide more one on one attention, introduce residents to new activity programming and keep the smiles regularly on their faces. The transition is not often easy, however w/ these comforts and a compassionate staff...we strive to make a significant difference... a happy experience for all!

At our assisted living community, we know how important it is to create an environment that feels like home. And what better way to do that than by welcoming the unconditional love of pets?

Nurse Elizabeth is one of many team members who gets to enjoy the perks of our pet-friendly community. These furry companions bring so much joy and comfort to both our residents and employees, and today, Nurse Elizabeth is spending some quality time with Mickey, one of our resident’s beloved dogs. It’s a “ruff” job, but someone has to do it!

Pets like Mickey not only brighten our days, but they also offer numerous benefits. Studies have shown that the presence of animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve overall mood. For our residents, they provide a sense of companionship and emotional support, easing feelings of loneliness and boosting their well-being.

For Nurse Elizabeth, spending time with Mickey isn’t just about offering some TLC to a furry friend—it’s about feeling the positive impact pets can have on the entire community. Whether it’s a wagging tail or a comforting cuddle, the bond between pets and people is something truly special.

Being pet-friendly isn’t just a policy—it’s a way of life here. It’s about making sure our residents feel comfortable, cared for, and surrounded by all the warmth and joy that pets bring. We are thrilled to share an exciting new chapter in our Branches journey of providing the highest quality care and support for our residents. In our ongoing commitment to enhancing the lives of those we serve, we are proud to introduce the Montessori-inspired approach to care at The River's of Maryland Farms.
Montessori is a philosophy rooted in respect, dignity, and empowerment. Originally developed as a method of education, this approach has been beautifully adapted to support older adults, particularly those living with memory challenges. By focusing on each individual’s abilities, strengths, and preferences, the Montessori method enables us to create an environment that fosters purpose, engagement, and independence.
Most recently during our Family Christmas Party we presented "The Hands of the Generation" we currently care for.
Hands are a universal language, transcending age, race, and background. In the hands of our senior residents, we see:
• Strength: Decades of hard work and perseverance.
• Connection: The warmth of a handshake, the comfort of a touch.
• Legacy: The marks of lives well-lived and lessons passed down.
As caregivers, we hold not just hands but histories. Each resident we serve has a unique journey, and their hands remind us to honor that journey daily. Whether it's helping with a simple task or holding hands during a quiet moment, we recognize the privilege of being part of their story.
