This past Friday to start the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend, our Glasses4Scholars vision team was on location at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington to conduct screenings for students needing examinations and glasses. We were able to help bring the necessary eye health services to help identify the visual impairments common in children.

After the screening, our team took time to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to Optical Assistant, Micah Lacasse.

Virginia is for vision health and POB’s recent glaucoma screening event at the Lorton Community Center was exactly that. Attendees received a list of services to help determine eye health, were given their selection of two pairs of glasses from our mobile optical shop and were offered many further optical resources for care. Thanks to our team of specialists from MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Howard University Hospital, and our volunteers for helping make a difference in the lives of many in Virginia’s growing low-vision community.

Happy Holidays to you and yours from everyone at the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington.

This past weekend, POB had the pleasure of welcoming our Low Vision community members and their loved ones to our 'Being The Light: Friends and Family Connection Luncheon' at Ingleside At Rock Creek!

The event’s theme was 'A New Path: Adjusting To Vision Loss.' Our speaker, Rachel Schreiman, shared her journey with vision loss. Then, Dr. Suleiman Alibhai moderated a panel discussion that answered low vision-related questions from the audience. Attendees then received personal demonstrations of new assistive devices from Enhanced Vision and VOMA Technologies & Training. What a wonderful day!

Thank you to the volunteers who helped to make this event possible!

October 10th is World Sight Day, a reminder to focus on eyecare for young people everywhere. We recently brought our Glasses4Scholars mobile clinic to Friendship PCS Blow Pierce Campus in Washington, D.C. for a two-day visit.

We provided screenings, eye exams, and two pairs of prescription glasses to 68 students - all at no cost to families. We’re proud to be a part of this global vision health celebration. We're always ready to help local students see and feel their best!

Thanks to our volunteer eye doctors and screeners for their remarkable work.
