Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, March 26 will be West Des Moines Mayor Russ Trimble, who also serves as Chief of Staff of the Senate Republican Caucus Staff. He has worked in various capacities for the Legislature for over 25 years with a brief stint serving as Deputy State Treasurer and Chief of Staff for State Treasurer Roby Smith.

Russ was elected Mayor of West Des Moines, which is one of Iowa’s largest and fastest growing cities, in 2021 after serving 12 years on its city council. He has also represented WDM on the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Polk County Homeless Coordinating Committee, the Central Iowa Water Trails Governance Committee, the Metropolitan Advisory Committee, the Polk County Disaster Recovery Advisory Committee and the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) which he chaired for four years.

Russ earned his Bachelors degree in International Studies and his Masters degree in Public Administration from Drake University.

He and his wife Alana have four children ages 23, 21, 19 and 17.

Our Westside Conservative Club speakers for Wednesday, March 12 will be State Representative Eddie Andrews and Iowans for Tax Relief’s Taxpayer Advocate Jim De Kruif.

Eddie will discuss his recent visit to the Trump White House and provide an update on the Iowa legislative session.

Jim De Kruif will discuss his work to help lower your personal property taxes and resources he can provide to help you hold your local government officials accountable for property tax rates.

Eddie Andrew’s is serving his third term in the Iowa Legislature. He represents House District 43 which includes Johnston, portions of Urbandale and northwestern Polk County. He is noted for personally visiting every home in his district and winning tough elections by increasingly large margins.
Eddie is Vice Chair of the International Relations Committee and also serves on the Health and Human Services and the Veterans Affairs Committees.
Andrews is a Tech entrepreneur/app developer and multi lingual minister who earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Iowa. He graduated and was his class President at Des Moines East High School.
Eddie and his wife Betty have two daughters and reside in Johnson.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, February 26 will be State Representative Dan Gehlbach, who represents House District 46, consisting of parts of Dallas and Polk counties. He is serving his second term and is Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and additionally serves on the Education, Health and Human Services and the Economic Growth & Technology Committees. He also is a member of the School Finance Formula Review Committee.
Dan will discuss the legislative efforts to protect Iowa’s children while providing quality education and give an update on this session’s legislative endeavors.
As a leader on education issues he has helped raise Iowa’s starting pay for teachers to fifth highest in the nation and also raised paraprofessionals pay. He also helped pass historic school choice reforms and legislation to protect Iowa’s children from irreversible, experimental gender reassignment surgeries and hormone therapy.
Prior to serving in the Legislature Dan was Vice President of the Waukee School Board. He and his wife own and operate Mathnasium Learning Center in West Des Moines and have helped hundreds of kids reach their math potential.
Dan has also worked in the healthcare,
gaming and publishing industries as a Certified Internal Auditor and was a high school teacher for two years in Japan.
Representative Gehlbach earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Kansas and his Master’s of Business Administration from Arizona State University. He is a graduate of Urbandale High School.
Dan and his wife Staci reside in Waukee with their two daughters.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, February 12 will be Pat Grassley, Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives.
Pat was first elected to the House in 2007. He currently represents House District 57, which includes Butler County and a portion of Bremer County.
He was elected Speaker by the House GOP Caucus in 2020. Under his leadership the Republicans have elected a supermajority of 67 members who represent all of Iowa’s ninety-nine counties. This is the largest House majority in over fifty years. They have enacted an impressive and lengthy list of conservative legislation.
Speaker Grassley earned his AA degree in agribusiness from Hawkeye Community College.
When he is not busy leading the Iowa House, he helps operate the Grassley family farm in rural New Hartford.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, January 22 is Amy Sinclair, President of the Iowa Senate. Until recently Amy has also been serving as Acting Lt Governor of Iowa.
During the last election the Iowa Senate maintained its super majority status. Among it’s many accomplishments were:
Tax cuts for everyone.
Elimination of taxes on retirement income.
Expanded maternity support options.
A balanced budget- Every year.
Streamlining state government
Protecting Iowans freedoms ranging from second Amendment rights to free speech.
Amy represents Iowa’s 12th Senate District, which includes her home county, Wayne, and all or parts of Dallas, Adair, Madison, Union, Clarke, Lucas, Decatur and Appanoose counties. She was first elected to the Senate in 2012 after serving two terms on the Wayne County Board of Supervisors.
Amy resides with her family in Allerton.

Our Wednesday, February 12 speaker will be Pat Grassley, Speaker of the Iowa House of Representatives.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, January 8 will be Craig Bergman. Craig is the Chief Executive Officer and CTO for six tech companies. He specializes in Blockchain, Crypto and Bitcoin technology. If leaders like Elon Musk are investing, we all probably need to learn more about the challenges and opportunities they present.
Craig was an early adaptor of new financial technology, starting his first computer sales and repair shop in 1990. He was a key player in the development of online banking when he served as a Vice President and in numerous management positions for multiple banks, including Wells Fargo. He is currently focusing on the development of cutting edge solutions to protect American election integrity.
Bergman also has substantial conservative political experience, starting as Iowa College Republican Chair for Jack Kemp and leading to his service as a campaign staffer or consultant for 4 presidential, 6 gubernatorial and 7 U.S. Senate campaigns. He is a strong advocate for Pro-life and Second Amendment rights, as well as a leading advocate for American Constitutionalism, the Bill of Rights and a free and fair market economy.
Craig is an Iowa native and a nine year Gulf War Era Army veteran.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, December 11 will be Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate. Paul will discuss the administration of last month’s election as well as future election issues.
Paul Pate is serving his fourth term as Secretary of State. He is a former President of the National Association of Secretaries of State and currently is Co-Chair of the NASS Election Committee. Under his leadership Iowa has become one of America’s top three states for election administration, breaking numerous records for voter registration and participation. He has also greatly enhanced our election cybersecurity.
Prior to serving as Secretary of State, Pate served in the Iowa Senate and also was elected to two terms as Mayor of Cedar Rapids.
Paul and his wife Jane reside in Cedar Rapids.

Our next Westside Conservative meeting will be Wednesday, January 8.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, November 27 will be Polk County Supervisor Robert Brownell, who will be retiring after completing his sixth term this January.
Bob has led Polk County through one its most dramatic times of growth and change and will share his unique perspectives on our area’s development and future.
During his tenure he was especially interested in homelessness issues, affordable housing, economic development, human trafficking and assisting refugee immigrants. He has also focused on community mental health, especially Alzheimer’s disease research.
Bob loves baseball and the Clive Baseball Complex is named in his honor.
Brownell was first elected to the Clive City Council in 1985 and was elected Clive Mayor in 1993 before his first election to the Polk County Board of Supervisors in 2000.
He was the Des Moines Branch Manager for Yellow Transportation for fifteen years after serving in numerous supervisory positions with Roadway Express.
Brownell obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Iowa Cum Laude in English and Education and has attended Drake University for post graduate work.
