🐾Last week, USO Canine Maverick made the trip to sunny Florida for the 2025 Hero Dogs Awards, where he proudly passed down his title to the next deserving hero! Maverick continues to inspire with his dedication to supporting our service members and their families.

While at the event, Maverick walked the red carpet and even had the chance to meet some amazing celebrities who couldn’t resist his charm. From paws to applause, Maverick remains a true hero to everyone he meets.

Meet Candace Dunning, USO Volunteer and a true example of dedication and selflessness! 🙌 From leading events to managing warehouse operations and playing a key role in the Dignified Transfer mission at Dover Air Force Base, Candace goes above and beyond to support the USO. She builds valuable community partnerships, secures donations, and even arranges repairs for USO assets—all without being asked. Her passion, reliability, and leadership make her an exceptional volunteer and a deserving recipient for 2024 Stateside Volunteer of the Year! 🎉

"President Jimmy Carter lived a long and meaningful life. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
As President, he played a historic role in the foundation of the USO. President Carter, who graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1946 and served in the U.S. Navy until 1953, signed the new USO Congressional charter on December 20, 1979. The charter is a law passed by Congress that defines the purposes, authority and activities of the USO. Among other operating provisions, the charter established the President of the United States as the USO’s honorary chairman.
In accepting the USO honorary chairmanship in February 1977, President Carter wrote, “My general policy is not to accept honorary chairmanships, but I will make an exception because of the importance of the USO to our nation’s military personnel. I know that I am joined by military personnel throughout the world and their families in expressing the hope that those who ensure the success of the USO’s programs may find as much satisfaction in their work as the deserving individuals it benefits.”
As the world reflects on the impact of former President Carter’s legacy, let us not forget the foundation he set for the USO to be the nation’s leading nonprofit organization to support the people serving in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform."
