Love seeing South King County Food Coalition's Elk Run Farm featured in this year's KING 5 Home Team Harvest campaign. It's hard to believe it has been 10 years (!) since I bounced around in a golf cart with the property owner and sketched out a vision for a community-led food bank farm. So proud that Harvest Against Hunger was able to convene so many amazing groups and dedicated volunteers to make that vision a reality. Nearing its 10th growing season - Elk Run Farm in Maple Valley aims to donate more than 12,000 pounds of culturally diverse produce to local food banks.

We were so honored to be chosen by Julio Rodriguez for a generous $10,000 donation from his No Limits Foundation last night. Thanks also to the Seattle Mariners and Mariners Care for their matching donation. This will help HAH and our partners provide a lot of healthy produce for kids throughout our community.

We enjoyed sharing the impact of our work at Harvest Against Hunger in the context of Ripple Effect Mapping (REM) recently in a presentation to the Rotary e-Club of Silicon Valley. REM is a powerful tool to understand the qualitative impact of an organization's work using feedback from community partners. REM helps HAH build programs that are tailored to the unique needs and attributes of our partners and the communities they serve. Many thanks to Debra Hansen for her work in building the HAH REM and Rushton Hurley for the invitation to reframe how we talk about our work and share with new audiences. Thank you to Hopelink and the Washington Gleaning Network for organizing the glean at Food Bank Farm in Snohomish. Together, 15 of us picked 1,448 pounds of corn for Hopelink to distribute to community members. It was a blast -- even with rain showers. 🙂

Our AmeriCorps member, Savannah served with Concrete Jungle as the Farm Recovery Manager VISTA. As the Farm Recovery Manager VISTA, Savannah managed the Produce Buyer Club where she cultivated relationships with new and existing buyers, overseeing and improving the logistical components of distribution to partners, strengthened relationships with existing farmers, and extended Concrete Jungle’s farmer network. Since July 2023 Savannah has purchased and distributed 246,000 pounds of produce. This year alone she has already purchased and distributed almost 80,000 pounds of produce! Luckily for Concrete Jungle, Savannah will continue as staff as the Farm Recovery Manager. Congratulations on all your accomplishments!
