Seattle Indian Health Board is a community health center recognized as a leader in the promotion of well-being for urban American Indians and Alaska Natives, locally and nationally. Our unique approach to healthcare, based in Indigenous knowledge, allows us to approach medicine through a holistic system of care that tends to mind, body, and spirit equally. We operate a primary medical clinic, dent

al clinic, and pharmacy and offer Traditional Indian Medicine services, behavioral health services, substance use disorder treatment, and nutrition, family services, and WIC services.

Along with our partners across Indian Country, we are deeply concerned about news of cuts to the federal Healthy Tribes program.

This initiative supports some of our work on chronic disease prevention. As our executive vice president Abigail Echo-Hawk (Pawnee) said in today's New York Times article, it is "puzzling" that HHS has decided to move away from supporting research that benefits us all. https://loom.ly/LFSxh6Q

These uninformed actions by the federal government are a violation of trust and treaty obligations to Indian Country, and SIHB will continue to do everything possible to fight for the health and lives of Native people.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he is committed to improving the Indian Health Service. Native American leaders have doubts. “It’s shameful,” one said.

We continue to advocate for our people, even amid recent layoffs which impact those supporting Native programs right here in Seattle.

Our president and CEO Esther Lucero (Diné) spoke with KUOW Public Radio about the consequences federal staff cuts may have on Native healthcare, and the value those employees provided to community.

Hey expecting and new parents, let’s make some music! 🎶

At our next lunch, join Rhonda Grantham from the Center for Indigenous Midwifery for a session where we’ll make traditional rattles and share traditional lullabies.

This activity isn’t just about crafting! It’s about building bonds through music and learning songs you can share with your little ones. Let’s pass down these traditions together and make memories while we do it.

Razor clam season is here, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than with a bowl of Pacific Razor Clam Chowder!

For generations, coastal communities have relied on razor clams as a nourishing, sustainable food source. Their flavor and texture make them a perfect ingredient, especially in a chowder!

This version keeps things fresh with buttery leeks, thyme, and a touch of vermouth, balancing comfort with bright flavors. Whether you harvest your own or pick them up fresh, this chowder is a perfect way to celebrate seasonal seafood.

Our Story

Seattle Indian Health Board is a community health clinic that provides health and human services to its patients, while specializing in the care of Native people. We are recognized as a leader in the promotion of health improvement for urban American Indians and Alaska Natives, locally and nationally.

Today, Seattle Indian Health Board operates two sites and is in the process of opening two more. We serve approximately 6,000 patients annually in King County, Wash., and more than 4,000 of those identify as American Indian and/or Alaska Native, and we employ more than 180 people.

Seattle Indian Health Board opened its doors to the community in 1970. In the 1960s, Native activists refused to let urban Indians go unseen and ignored any longer, which inspired the formation of a number of Native organizations, including the Seattle Indian Health Board. For the first time, urban Indians in Seattle had access to healthcare and services by organizations that were operated by Native people for Native people.
