Twenty-eight years ago on February 12, 1997 during a violent winter storm, a 44 foot motor lifeboat from U.S. Coast Guard Station Quillayute River launched to assist a sailing vessel in distress off the coast of La Push, Washington. While making way towards the sailing vessel, the tumultuous seas caused the 44363 to capsize, ejecting three of the four crew members into the water.

Lost in the line of duty that day was Petty Officer Second Class David Bosely, Petty Officer Third Class Matthew Schlimme and Seaman Clinton Miniken. Today and everyday, we honor their sacrifice.

SEATTLE โ€“ The Coast Guard rescued two boaters from a disabled and grounded 31-foot sailboat near the San Juan Islands, Wash., Monday night.

Rescue crews rescued a 56-year-old man and recovered a woman who later succumbed to her injuries.

Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound watchstanders received a mayday call via VHF radio from the captain of the sailboat around 7 p.m. stating his sailboat was disabled and drifting toward land. Snowy conditions and 25 to 30 mph winds with 4 to 6-foot seas were reported as the on-scene weather.

The Coast Guard command center launched a rescue boatcrew from Station Bellingham aboard a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium and an aircrew aboard a MH-65E Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Port Angeles to locate the distressed vessel.

As Coast Guard crews were attempting the rescue, the sailboat ran aground. After the mast of the vessel collapsed, the aircrew was able to lower the rescue swimmer to reach the individuals.

After the rescue swimmer retrieved the man and he was hoisted to the rescue boat, the helicopter crew located the woman in the water and guided the boatcrew to her location. The woman was recovered unconscious by the boatcrew and brought aboard where a crew member immediately began CPR.

The woman was hoisted to the helicopter and flown to St. Joesph Medical Center in Bellingham. She was later declared deceased by hospital personnel.

The man was taken by the boatcrew to Station Bellingham where he was transferred to EMS who then took him to St. Joesph Medical Center.

A Coast Guard member injured during the rescue was transported to the hospital for evaluation and released later that night.

from this past weekend at U.S. Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment where station members honored the lives lost from the Motor Lifeboat Triumph.

January 12, 1961, was an ill fated night that Station Cape Disappointment will never forget. Six crew members on the Triumph went out with only one making it back.

To honor the lives lost that night, a wreath was put out to sea on the Columbia River bar from a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew, a bell was rung for each live lost, and a 12 gun salute was given.

These U.S. Coast Guard members showed the highest level of devotion to duty and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Another day, another rescue by U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles!

Yesterday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received a request from a partner agency to assist with a medevac of a man from a remote part of the Hoh Valley near Olympic National Park.

The man had fallen down a hill and suffered several injuries. EMS and Life Flight were on scene but they were unable to recover the patient without hoist capabilities.

Clallam County requested the U.S. Coast Guard aircrew to assist with the hoist.

After the Dolphin helicopter crew safely hoisted the man, they landed on a nearby logging road and transferred the man to a waiting Life Flight Network helicopter. The man was then flown to Harborview Medical Center.

๐ŸŽ„Christmas Day Rescue: U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles aircrew rescues man and dog off vessel in distress. Now this is a holiday story to remember!

At approximately 7 a.m. on Christmas morning, the Jefferson County Sheriffโ€™s Office received a call about a man in distress between the Port of Port Townsend and the PT Paper Mill. A passerby reported that the man, struggling to navigate his sailboat in the strong winds, had requested help.

Despite his efforts, the sailboat ran aground near the Larry Scott Trail. With waves crashing around him, the man and his canine companion were stranded on the vessel.

A U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer arrived on the scene and successfully led both the man and his dog to safety. They were brought to shore unharmed.

A holiday partner story with an excellent ending! Bravo zulu to this team!

No, these photos of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter David Duren weren't taken from a drone.

These were taken from the bridge wing of a container ship on the Columbia River by one of the Columbia River Pilots, Capt. Corey Williams.

Capt. Williams was piloting an inbound vessel when they met the crew of the Duren below the Port of Longview.

Did you know vessels on the Columbia River carry the most wood, wheat, and minerals compared to any other waterway in the United States?

Itโ€™s and this week weโ€™re highlighting Aviation Maintenance Technician 3rd Class Brandon Cushman, stationed at U.S. Coast Guard Air Station North Bend!

A native of Mars Hill, ME, Petty Officer Cushman has been in the U.S. Coast Guard for over seven years with North Bend being his first unit as an AMT.

Cushman joined the service after attending a home town recruitment event at his high school and saw all the aviation opportunities the Coast Guard offered. Cushman then made the decision to enlist after graduating high school.

A highlight of being in the Coast Guard for Cushman is performing search and rescue missions with his first rescue being last year of a lost hiker in Oregon!

Thank you for choosing to serve Petty Officer Cushman! We are proud and grateful to have you as a shipmate in the Pacific Northwest, BZ!

Bravo Zulu to Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles!

On Saturday, an aircrew rescued three people, including one child, from their grounded boat off the south end of Camano Island.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound dispatched the helicopter crew due to the steep terrain the people were next to and the inability for the local fire department to access them.

The 12-year-old boy was hoisted first and taken to Paine Field Airport where he was seen by a local EMS crew. The helicopter quickly refueled and then headed back to the scene to safely hoist the remaining two adults and the rescue swimmer. The two individuals were also taken to Paine to be seen by EMS.

Great work to all involved!

Let's swing by U.S. Coast Guard Station Portland for today's Friday From the Field.

Recently, the crew conducted 2-boat training on the Willamette River throughout "Bridgetown."

Station Portland is one of the only units in the entire U.S. Coast Guard who's area of operation (AOR) is on solely on river systems and they exclusively operate the 29-foot Response Boat-Small (RBS).

Even during these winter months, when the Columbia and Willamette have less recreational traffic, our crews train to ensure they remain proficient when called upon during an emergency.

Did you know, the Willamette's main river stem is 187 miles long!?
