SHA has completed Sawara, its sixth new residential building at Yesler. The 114-unit building is located at Yesler Way and 8th Ave. The building name honors Japanese culture in the neighborhood and can refer to a cypress tree or a type of fish.

RAVE Foundation, the charitable arm of the Seattle Sounders FC, and Seattle Parks and Recreation are hosting a Watch party for soccer fans this Sunday, July 14 from 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. at Van Asselt Community Center, 2820 S Myrtle St., in SHA’s NewHolly neighborhood. Join others in your community to watch the Euro Final at 12 noon and the Copa America Final at 5 p.m.

SHA is proud to partner with RAVE Foundation, the official charitable arm of Seattle Sounders FC to provide two soccer fields at NewHolly and another at Yesler. RAVE fields give underserved youth and families a safe place for free, open play. NewHolly youth and staff are featured in a recent FOX 13 TV news report about the RAVE Foundation's mission to create 26 community soccer fields by 2026 when the FIFA World Cup comes to Seattle. It is open to anyone who struggles to access and/or afford healthcare. Daily tickets are distributed beginning at 5:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis at Fisher Pavilion. SHA urges Congress to fund extension of the to continue making broadband internet affordable to low-income households. Without extension the assistance millions of families rely on to access the internet will end in April.

Seattle Housing Authority has been helping residents access reliable home internet through the . One SHA resident, a grandmother raising two grandchildren, shares her perspective on how the ACP has positively impacted her family:

“Words can’t express how thankful I am. I’m a grandmother who is raising my two young grandkids. The world that we live in is moving more towards being online, so it’s necessary for children growing up nowadays to have basic knowledge on how to navigate the Internet to live. My grandchildren can now learn online and be able to enjoy the games that the other kids are playing. I’ll be able to shop online now and look for discounted items for my grandchildren from the convenience of my house. I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who made it possible for us to receive these resources.”

Volunteers are needed for the 2024 Seattle/King County Clinic. Each year Seattle Housing Authority partners with the clinic which provides free dental, vision and medical for those in need. SHA receives more than $1 million from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to build on its success in creating greater housing opportunity for families with young children.

The Seattle Housing Authority has been awarded $1,075,200 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to expand neighborhood choices for more families with young children being served by SHA.
