Welcoming Adiam Emery as SDOT’s Interim Director
Meet Adiam Emery, our Interim Director! 👋
Adiam is leading SDOT as we focus on delivering a safe, reliable, and equitable transportation system – and 2025 is a big year.
Thanks to the #SeattleTransportationLevy, which passed by 66% of Seattle voters last year (thank YOU, Seattle voters ❤️), we’re moving forward with projects to maintain and modernize our streets, improve bus service, expand sidewalks, and make it safer and easier to get around, however you travel.

SDOT has been in 24-hour weather response mode all week. Crew members were working throughout the night and already driving snow plows before the first snowflake hit the ground last night.
We have 50+ winter response vehicles, but we can’t be everywhere at once. While our 1,000+ miles of designated snow plow routes are currently clear, there are many streets which are too steep or too narrow to plow safely. Many streets on hills are currently closed for public safety.
Please be careful out there. Don't travel if you don't have to, and if you do need to travel, please take it slow and be very cautious. Do not drive on closed roads – these are usually hills which were unsafe to plow.
We are also counting on everyone to do their part and clear snow & ice from the sidewalks around your homes and businesses.

Wondering why you might see our snowplows around town, but no snow yet?
We're practicing snow routes to test our equipment and help our drivers familiarize themselves with changes to streets on their routes. This also includes contributions from SDOT equipment operators, dispatch and traffic operations center staff, auxiliary support crew members, and senior management.
Curious about our snow routes? We prioritize plowing over 1,000 miles of Seattle’s most critical routes to hospitals, schools, emergency services, and shelters. As hard as our crew members work, it may take up to 12 hours after a break in the storm to clear streets.
If snow falls, our crews work 24 hours a day to clear Seattle’s most critical streets for emergency services and buses. Check the comments below for our snowplow route map.
We're asking you to get ready now too. We can't be everywhere at once. Make a plan to shovel and de-ice sidewalks, prepare your vehicle & home, and know which neighbors might need help.
