Take heart this International Women’s Day!
From refugee women demanding permanent visas in Australia to protests against the naked rule of right-wing billionaires in the United States, the human spirit of solidarity and resistance is on full display. Radical Women stands with people experiencing brutal wars in Ukraine, Palestine and Sudan. We join our working-class sisters and siblings of all genders who are fighting for their rights and survival.
On International Women’s Day, Radical Women honors the unquenchable resistance of the people of Iran, Syria and Afghanistan. We celebrate First Nations women leaders around the globe who stand strong against relentless attempts to crush their people and destroy the planet. We applaud the women of color and immigrants who are reinvigorating the labor movement. We continue our deep commitment to international fights for reproductive justice and race liberation.
The world is rumbling, because everywhere people are fighting back!
The bright diamonds of resistance give hope. As women and non-binary people, as workers, as LGBTIQ+ folk, as people of color and as socialist feminists, we witness inspiring leadership coming from the experience of oppression and poverty. Defiance is erupting from mothers, teachers, nurses, doctors, students and others, who become extraordinary warriors out of the impossible and dangerous circumstances they face. They show it is possible to resist against all odds.
Radical Women’s Manifesto says that in the diversity of women — of all ages and colors — there lies a vast potential for revolutionary strength and leadership. These qualities are urgently needed in times of crisis like now. The principled leadership of the most marginalized will advance the global freedom movement and end the misery of oppressed peoples everywhere. It is time to throw out the upholders of male supremacy and capitalist profits – beginning right here at home.
The sun is on the horizon, ready to come out. Together we can take back what is truly ours — the right to be who we are on a healthy planet and to collectively create a new, free, socialist, humanistic system.
This is what International Women’s Day stands for. Keep up the fight and remember the powerful words of Maya Angelou:
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise….
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Let us rise together!
In solidarity,
Maudie Osborne
