KCRHA Heatwave Severe Weather Activation
We still have Tier 2 Severe Weather Protocols activated, and will continue to through at least Thursday, July 18. We wanted to share how we decide to activate, and what sets the last week+ of unseasonably hot weather apart from our seasonal norms, creating a moderate/major US National Weather Service Seattle Washington HeatRisk. One month from today, the Supreme Court will hear the Johnson vs. Grants Pass case.
At it’s core, the Johnson vs. Grants Pass Supreme Court Case case asks whether ticketing and arresting unhoused people for trying to survive—when there are not other viable options—is cruel and unusual punishment.
We think it is.

We are currently in a Tier 2 Severe Weather activation, which means that the majority of the county is predicted to experience 3 days of daily highs below 40°F and/or daily lows below 35°F and/or snow or rain accumulation greater than 2".
