– Angeles, residente de Little Woods

WATCH 🎥 “We’re not giving up, we’re not being told what to do, we’re fighting against it.”

Residents of Little Woods Mobile Villas received ANOTHER wave of eviction notices from their corporate landlord. The tenants of Little Woods see the eviction notices as just another tactic by Harmony Communities to try to intimidate them – and the City of Petaluma questions if these notices are even legal.

Little Woods neighbors have worked for 2+ years to keep their park open and affordable, and they will keepep organizing with the Sonoma County Tenants Union.

🏘️ Little Woods Vecinos Unidos are here to stay!

Residents of Little Woods Mobile Home Villa are being told they have 12 months to vacate the property. Owners say they plan to close the park. But many say they have nowhere to go.

"My dream is not just for us to survive, but that we come to know belonging ... Now more than ever, our interconnection mandates us to protect the living world. Yes, we have a right to be here, but more than that, we need to be here." – Tré Vasquez, Movement Generation

In gratitude for this potent reflection and call to action from our former youth organizer Tré Vasquez in YES! Magazine.

We have so much cultural wealth and lived wisdom rooted in our will to survive like hell against all odds.

🤲🏽🌸 We nourish ourselves to nourish our communities! 🙌🏽 💐

🌱 Last Saturday we organized our People’s Healing Clinic – Sanación del Pueblo – to offer folks a space to show up for each other’s healing, mutual care, solidarity and joy:

🌳“I don’t believe in the self in the way that people determine it here in this capitalist society that we live in. I don’t believe in self-care, I believe in collective care, collectivizing our care, and thinking more about how we can help each other.” – Mariame Kaba, grassroots organizer and abolitionist

💚 Thank you to our practitioners y curanderas for helping us continue this tradition of community care and collective healing.

🤲🏽🌸 ¡Nos cuidamos para cuidar a nuestras comunidades! 💐🙌🏽

🔺The County has yet to fully inform the public about these protections, and yet in a meeting on Feb. 11, the Board began considering carveouts to these new protections that will limit protections to only “directly impacted” areas.

👉🏽Weakening tenant protections just weeks after a declared emergency excludes the voices of those most impacted, and ignores how people live and work in Sonoma County. For example, a worker may lose hours or an entire day of wages because of rain or flood, but will still have to pay rent in a neighborhood that may not be “directly impacted.”

🏡 The eviction protections the County passed last year ensure that all impacted people will be protected from displacement regardless of where they live and work, and give residents support they need after a disaster strikes. Be it floods, fires, or a pandemic, the impact of these disasters goes beyond specific geographic borders directly impacted.

🚨To weaken the protections now by limiting them to directly impacted areas will be catastrophic to working people. We ask the Board of Supervisors to uphold their responsibility to go to work for everyone in Sonoma County – those that must live and work in different neighborhoods, tenants, and those most impacted by disasters.

🟡 Breathe. Slow down. Check in on your loved ones.

🦋 We know it’s very easy to feel panicked right now and overloaded with information. Let’s not let fear stop us from living our lives and accessing what we need to live full lives in our communities.

🟥 Remember, you have rights under the law – regardless of your immigration status.

🌻 Please don’t panic or stop doing the things you need to do in your life. The best way is to report what you see to the Rapid Response Network and pause before sharing rumors on social media.

And if you need to take a break from social media, please do.

🟡 Respire.
