AgCountry Farm Credit Services awarded the Sheriff's Department $10,000 as a recipient of the Rural Community Grant Fund (RCGF). The grant funds will go towards funding our law enforcement K-9 program.

Sheriff Robert Roed, from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department, is pleased to accept the check from Scott Hodenfield, Financial Officer with AgCountry Farm Credit Services, and utilize the grant funds towards purchasing another K-9 for their program.

The Ward County Sheriff’s Department provides essential services for the community, and the acquisition of another K-9 will allow the Sheriff’s Department to train a second K-9 and better serve the citizens of Minot. The additional K-9 will provide the Sheriff’s Department with resources to respond to threats such as narcotics and weapons detection as well as resources to aid human tracking including criminals, lost children, or elderly people with medical issues. “We are excited to award funds for a second K-9 to secure their K-9 program and increase public safety,” says Scott Hodenfield. “AgCountry is proud to help them acquire additional resources to help them get illegal narcotics off the street,” he adds.

AgCountry Farm Credit Services, Farm Credit Services of Mandan and AgriBank, established the Rural Community Grant Fund to assist in the implementation and development of projects and programs in communities and rural areas in western North Dakota that have been impacted by mineral exploration.

The Rural Community Grant Fund is currently accepting applications for future funding requests. Interested parties can apply at www.AgCountry.com.

Please keep the family, friends, and law enforcement brothers and sisters of Lt. Mcleod in your thoughts and prayers as they attempt to heal from this tragic news.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Lt. Matt McLeod, a valued member of the Minot Police Department since 2002. Lt. McLeod's dedication to serving our community will be remembered, and his absence will be deeply felt by his colleagues and friends.

We ask for your thoughts and respect for Lt. McLeod's family and those who were close to him during this challenging time.

We will be bringing Lt. McLeod back to Minot today around 8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., coming into town on Burdick Expressway. Your space and respect during this time would be greatly appreciated as we honor his return.

A special thanks was extended by Sheriff Roed tonight to honor these two Berthold teens for their actions that saved the life of a missing person. On January 1st, they recognized a vehicle stuck in the snow on a road that seemed out of place and went to check on it. In doing so, they found a missing person from Minot that was sitting in the vehicle that had already run out of gas. Without their actions, this incident could have had a tragic end.

Winter driving can be quite a challenge!! It's critical to make sure your car is ready to brave the elements. Keeping those headlights on and ensuring that all snow is cleared off will not only help you see, but also ensure others can see you. Stay safe out there. Take it slow and steady.
