UPDATE: ROAD IS NOW REOPENED!

ROAD CLOSED: State Route 9G is closed between Mt. Merino Rd. & Middle Rd. in the Town of Greenport due to a tree and wires down. Traffic is being detoured over Mt. Merino Rd.

Congratulations to Chief Wayne Butterworth Jr. of the Athens Vol. Fire Department. His department had the winning bid for our 2013 Chevy Tahoe Chief Vehicle. They picked the car up today and took it to Next Gen Signs Inc for re-lettering! We are glad the vehicle is staying local. Look for it in service in Athens in the near future! 6/8/2024 - Greenport’s finest turnout in force to honor our flag and march in the Hudson Flag Day Parade. A great time had by all! Thank you to Lowe’s Home Improvement of Hudson for donating the patriotic bunting to us! Also, thank you to those who captured these moments for us.

Take-out roast beef dinner at Station #1. Each dinner includes mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, roll, and dessert. Dinners can be picked up from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We will also be having a community yard sale in our parking lot this same day.

5/27/2024 - Memorial Day 2024 - Members participated in the Hudson Memorial Day Parade and then attended the ceremony after. Thank you to the American Legion Post 184 Hudson New York for including us!

Since we just raffled a new BBQ grill and most people will be getting their grills out for the summer, this is a good time to review grill safety.

Firing up the grill this weekend? Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. For propane grills, check the gas tank for leaks before use. Be mindful of safety throughout the season and follow these BBQ safety tips from the NYS Office of Fire Prevention & Control.

5/21/2024 - John Onufrychuk Jr. received a fire chief’s speaking trumpet, a past chief helmet shield and a past chief badge from Chief Taylor, 1st Asst. Chief C***a and 2nd Asst. Chief Pierro in recognition of more than 30 years of service as a chief officer of the Greenport Fire Department during his 54 years of membership with Greenport Pumper Company No. 1.

Probably some big changes are coming that could have a big effect on volunteer fire departments in the next year or two. If unchanged from the current version, it could also have a negative effect on our membership numbers and our future prospective members. Changes in training that will make our firefighters safer are always welcome but is OSHA going a little too far? Our District Chief Mark was invited to Breakfast with Heroes as Mikey Platner’s Hero. He was honored to attend! The event was very well attended by all types of heroes.

4/21/2024 - The Becraft Pumper Co. No. 2 held their monthly breakfast with proceeds going to the Hudson Little League. Members of the Hudson Little League were a big help bussing tables and other tasks during the morning. 320 people were served and over $3,000 in proceeds went to the Hudson Little League.
