March marks National Reading Month, a great time to celebrate the joy of reading and highlight the importance of literacy in our lives. This month, we encourage everyone to explore the world of books and storytelling. 📖✨ Here are some books that the keiki in our programs have been enjoying.

Aloha ‘Ia ‘O Wai‘anae is just around the corner!
Join us on March 13 (Thursday), from 4–7 pm at Wai‘anae Elementary for an action-packed, carnival-style community celebration!

Join us for:
•Live music by Landon McNamara (2025 Eddie Aikau Winner)
• Food boxes for the first 300 families & 1,000 hot meals
• Inflatable sports games and family-friendly fun
• Community resource booths and vendor support

On Saturday our English Language Learner Manager, Law Chavez, recently organized a Christmas in July Party for ELL students and learners from the Digital Literacy program. 🎄🏖️The event provided a great opportunity for individuals to interact, especially since most had not previously met due to the classes being held virtually. 😁

This summer, the Bookmobile visited six schools in the Waipahu/Pearl City Complex. 🚎📚 The Bookmobile provided free books, read-aloud sessions, and activities for the students. It was wonderful to see both new and familiar faces, and we were touched by the sweet thank-you messages we received. 😊

Happy National Bookmobile Day! 🥳 Hawaii Literacy’s Bookmobile Program began in 2001. Since then, we’ve served tens of thousands of keiki and their ‘ohana by providing access to free books and educational materials in underserved communities across Oahu and S. Kona. 🚎📚

The Bookmobiles provide free access to books for keiki and their ohana at various after-school programs, affordable housing programs, transitional housing, and shelters. Staff and volunteers also facilitate read-alouds and literacy-related activities which many of the keiki enjoy. 😁✏️📚🚎

Bookmobiles are an essential tool in making reading accessible. 🚎📚Our Bookmobiles provide a wide range of books suitable for children of all ages, as well as a selection for adults to build their home libraries. We hope that there is a book on our shelves that will instill a love for reading and storytelling in everyone who visit. 📖💫

The Big Umbrella - Rotary Club Story Time

Aloha everyone! We are very grateful for our friends at The Rotary Club of Honolulu to be sharing these videos with us. The Rotary Club of Honolulu, Literacy Project partnership started in 2016. They do several projects which are monthly Saturday story hours and literacy activities, keiki tutoring, beautification days at MWH library and donate monthly reading prizes and healthy snacks to the keiki.
