1st Infantry Division Band Soldiers got to test their Warrior skills by participating in the National Training Center Rotation 25-03 in Fort Irwin, CA. The deserts of California dealt some cold nights and beautiful sunny days as they maintained watch for the Division. We were proud to help the Army learn valuable information on how to improve the Division's warfighting capability. We are also happy to announce we're back and look forward to performing music for Fort Riley and our community partners!

1st Infantry Division Band Bugler Cpl. Matthew Plount plays Taps as part of the 18th annual Wreaths Across America ceremony hosted by Fort Riley and the 1st Infantry Division on December 14, 2024. During the ceremony, seven ceremonial wreaths were placed to honor each of the Armed Services, Gold Star families, and Prisoners of War/Missing in Action. Following the ceremony, community volunteers came together to lay wreaths at the gravesites of Service Members interred at the Fort Riley Cemetery.

1st Infantry Division Artillery said farewell to our beloved and esteemed Command Sgt. Maj. McLaughlin and welcomed Command Sgt. Maj. Turner at their Change of Responsibility Ceremony. We here at the 1st Infantry Division Band will miss CSM McLaughlin's inspiring leadership and constant support, and we were grateful to be able to support this important ceremony. The 1st Infantry Division Band went to Kansas State University to perform with the K-State Marching Band for the annual Fort Riley Day football game. The Flint Hills Veterans Coalition invited the 1st Infantry Division Band and multiple brigades on Fort Riley to march in their annual Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan, Kansas. The weather was great and the turnout was even better! We appreciate all the support we get from the Flint Hills' communities. We also offer our gratitude and support to the Veterans who have made events like this possible.

One of the benefits and downsides of being an Army Musician is that you regularly move duty stations and see various parts of this beautiful country. The downside is that you depart from some great friends when you leave. This time, we had to say goodbye to Sgt. 1st Class Principe (euphonium). During his time here, he made a deep impression on the Soldiers of this unit; we wish him the best at the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Band at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. We also want to give a hearty welcome to Sgt. Kaila Moonan (flute). Sgt. Moonan joins us from the recently deactivated 11th Airborne Division Band in Alaska!

Help us congratulate Staff Sgt. Noah Parker on his recent promotion! We couldn't be more proud of this great accomplishment. Staff Sgt. Parker has been a stellar NCO since his arrival to the Big Red One; leading Soldiers and working in many roles that are vital to the function and readiness of the 1st ID Band.

The 1st Infantry Division Band shifted gears and went into the field to train. We all had a great time practicing our Army Warrior skills. It's easy to forget, but Army Musicians are Soldiers first. We'll be ready to go back out when the time comes.

Army Bands employ many world-class musicians. One way we maintain that level of skill and our passion for music is by putting on recitals. One of our star Euphonium players, SFC Michael Principe, and Tuba extraordinaire SPC Daniel Nowosad performed some beautiful selections for their peers in a private recital that we hosted.

On October 14th the 1st Infantry Division Band joined the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum to celebrate the life and lasting legacy of President and General Dwight D. Eisenhower's 134th birthday. President Eisenhower will always be remembered for planning two of the most consequential military campaigns of World War II: Operation Torch in the North Africa campaign in 1942–1943 and the invasion of Normandy in 1944.

The 1st Infantry Division Band felt honored to perform at the Street Renaming Ceremony in tribute to the latest Medal of Honor recipient, CPT Larry Taylor.

During his service in the Vietnam War, he landed his Cobra helicopter under heavy enemy fire to rescue fellow Soldiers risking his own life. When he landed, the Soldiers climbed aboard, sitting on the rocket-pods and skids, and Cpt. Taylor carried them to safety before landing them back on friendly territory.

CPT Larry Taylor's courage will be remembered for doing a feat that had never been accomplished or even attempted.

We were honored to participate in the 3rd Annual Kansas Gold Star Family Remembrance ceremony. The 1st Infantry Division Band Brass Quintet provided the music, and we want to thank Governor Laura Kelly, the Kansas State Capitol building staff, and all the families who assisted in this ceremony.

A Gold Star family has experienced the loss of a loved one–an immediate family member who died as the result of active-duty military service. Those who die in service to their country leave behind parents, siblings, spouses, children, and extended families. They are Gold Star families. The title honors the service member’s ultimate sacrifice while acknowledging their family’s loss, grief, and continued healing.
