• Ehlers Hall Dedication Ceremony and Reception •

Former Vanguard Soldier and Medal of Honor recipient, SSG Walter Ehlers, serves as a constant example for every Soldier in the 18th Infantry Regiment and in the Big Red One. We had the honor of hosting his daughter, Cathy Ehlers Metcalf, and son, Dave Ehlers, at the commemoration of the Battalion Headquarters Building, now formally renamed Ehlers Hall.

1-18 BN HQ Dedication Vanguard Battalion hosts a Headquarters Dedication on 18 April 24 at 0900 for Medal of Honor Recipient SSG Walter D. Ehlers as part of Vanguard Victory Week.

On 25 April, Attack Company conducted a Change of Command Ceremony in which CPT Quigley handed command of the company over to CPT Zerull. Please join us in bidding farewell to Conor and welcoming Scott and his wife, Kohleen, to ATTACK!

Change of Command for HHC on 15 April. Team Bieger has made a remarkable impact on countless Soldiers and Families in the Vanguard battalion over the last 3 years, and they will be sincerely missed. Thankfully, Team Hamrick will pick up the torch and continue the honored tradition in Hammer Company and maintain greatness.

Last month two highly respected Command Sergeant Majors transitioned the responsibility as the senior enlisted leader of the battalion. We are tremendously grateful for the service and commitment of CSM Eric Pazz. He was an engaged and talented leader who provided the right leadership at the right time for a unit that faced one of the most challenging operating environments in recent history. Replacing him is CSM Taylor; another talented leader with a strong reputation and high level of experience. He will continue to prepare the battalion for the challenges ahead.

The Gala will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan, KS. Room reservations are going quickly; contact the SFRG if you haven’t received the email with the block room link or would like it sent to you.

Cocktail & hors d'doeuvres social hour, followed by a formal program including dinner, Distinguished Guest speaker, and dancing.

Attire will be Mess Dress or Service Uniform (both ASUs and AGSUs are acceptable) for military personnel and Formal Evening Gown/Black Tie for civilians.

We look forward to celebrating with you all at the Vanguard Gala!
