On June 19, 1865, federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to take control of the state and ensure the emancipation of all enslaved people. Juneteenth marks the day all enslaved people were made aware of their liberation. In addition to celebrating freedom, this day commemorates an avenue for people to honor African-American culture and traditions while moving forward. In observance of Juneteenth, all HSD buildings will be closed.

Mrs. Thompson’s summer school class is doing a nonfiction unit on farm animals. Last week we learned about pigs. We made mud with chocolate pudding and then made some mud puddles for our pigs 🐖🐽🐷

My Special Talents Showcase: art show edition🎨 Our art teacher, Mrs. Lira showcased the students artwork in the coolest way! The hallways were lined with posters of each classes artwork from the school year. Thank you Mrs. Lira for putting so much work and creativity into this show. It was amazing!

First Friday of the month meant Wildcat Assemblies💛🐯🖤This month we celebrated birthdays and readers of the month🎉 heard book recommendations 📚 recognized our teacher of the year, Mrs. Clooney🌟 heard cheers from our cheerleading team 📣 and had a performance from 2nd grade about sentence writing and a couple students read their completed pieces of writing ✏️📝
