Burn Ban Lifted – Fire Safety Reminder
Dear Neighbors,

The Community Volunteer Fire Company of Fairplay would like to inform you that the countywide burn ban will be lifted on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 8:00 AM, as announced by the Washington County Office of Emergency Management.

The burn ban was originally put in place due to prolonged dry conditions and increased fire risk. Thanks to recent rainfall and higher humidity levels, conditions have improved. However, fire safety remains a priority.

Fire Safety Reminders
Even though the burn ban has been lifted, please follow these important fire safety guidelines when conducting outdoor burning:

Never leave a fire unattended – Always stay nearby until it is completely out.
Keep a water source nearby – Have a hose or bucket of water ready in case of emergencies.
Avoid burning in windy conditions – Wind can cause fires to spread quickly.
Make sure fires are fully extinguished – Before leaving the area, ensure all embers are completely out.
A Message from Emergency Officials
β€œWe appreciate the cooperation of our residents and businesses during this burn ban,” said Alan Matheny, Director of the Washington County Office of Emergency Management. β€œYour efforts have helped protect lives and property, and we encourage continued fire safety awareness.”

πŸ”₯ Washington County Office of Emergency Management Issues Burn Ban Due to Increased Fire Risk πŸ”₯

Effective immediately, by order of the Board of County Commissioners, the Washington County Office of Emergency Management has issued a countywide burn ban due to heightened fire danger. The ban is in response to prolonged dry conditions, elevated temperatures, and increased wind activity, which significantly raise the risk of wildfires.

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor open burning, including but not limited to:

πŸ”Ή Campfires
πŸ”Ή Open fire pits
πŸ”Ή Burning of debris and brush
πŸ”Ή Agricultural burns
πŸ”Ή Any other open flame activity that could pose a fire hazard

β€œThis precautionary measure is essential to protect lives, property, and natural resources,” said Alan Matheny, Director of the Washington County Office of Emergency Management. β€œWe urge all residents and businesses to comply with the burn ban to prevent accidental wildfires and ensure the safety of our community.”

Residents are encouraged to use alternative methods of disposal for yard debris, such as mulching or taking waste to designated drop-off locations. The County will continue to monitor conditions and lift the burn ban when it is deemed safe to do so.

Violators of the burn ban may be subject to fines and penalties.
