As we continue to see a flood of changes to immigration law, we will do our best to keep our communities informed. We will highlight some of the changes to immigration policy and procedures, and updates to proposed bills in the Iowa senate. We will also provide an update to what Iowa MMJ is keeping its eyes on and what are communities across the state telling us.

Tomorrow, April 1st, at 1:30 pm the Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee is meeting to discuss HF 572 or the "Transporation as Smuggling" bill. This is our last chance to make our voices heard and say "No Anti-Immigrant Bills in Iowa!". Call the committee and show up tomorrow! Look for those in Iowa MMJ orange shirts. SHOW UP AND SAY NO!

HF 572 is an anti-immigrant bill that makes knowingly transporting a person who is in the state without authorization a crime. The bill is unnecessary and would have far reaching impacts on everyday activities for Iowans.

The bill is on the debate calendar for the Iowa House of Representatives TODAY. Your Representative needs to hear from you ASAP!

While you’re not required to tell ICE that you’re recording, know that ICE is most concerned with their safety and not yours. Filming clearly and visibly, while not making sudden movements, can help protect yourself. If you are asked to stop filming, be sure to speak in a calm and non-confrontation tone saying, "I am exercising my right to film at a distance." Once you have the video, save it then call our ICE Reporting Hotline at ☎️ 515-505-8805.

La HSB 187 era una legislación de "PoliMigra"/Perfilamiento racial que habría requerido que todas los departamento de seguridad publico (la policia) en Iowa firmaran un acuerdo para trabajar con ICE, ¡y ha sido no pasó en el comité! HSB 187 was a "PoliMigra"/Racial Profiling legislation that would have required every law enforcement agency in Iowa to enter into an agreement to work with ICE, and it has effectively died in committee! Thank you to our entire community who came and showed up at the capitol and made their voices heard. Remember; "Don't be afraid. We have power!"

Rep. Steven Holt (Crawford County, Denison) is pushing forward another bill that no one wants. This "PoliMigra"/Racial Profiling legislation would require every law enforcement agency in Iowa to enter into an agreement to work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Attend the Committee Meeting today! 10:00am-12pm Room 103.
If you can't make it, call/send and email to members of the House Judiciary Committee.
