🌎 Warrior Wednesday: Poolee Zach 🌏

Today, we are highlighting one of the newest Poolees with RSS Casper: Zachary Leiding

19-year-old Zachary Leiding has traveled to 44 out of 50 states across the United States. Growing up on military bases he was immersed in military and Marine Corps culture. This exposure planted the idea of service in his mind from an early age.

“I used to be really into mechanics and all that stuff, and wanted to work with cars. But that kind of just slowly died and faded, and the closer and closer I got to graduating high school, the more and more the military, specifically the Marine Corps, kind of just called my name.”

Initially passionate about mechanics and working on cars, Zach’s interests shifted as he approached high school graduation. The idea of joining the military, specifically the Marine Corps, became more compelling. He felt a higher calling, particularly toward special forces, and ultimately decided to take the leap.

“Doing that type of stuff, and just kind of just that thought of being a Marine itself has just pushed me to want to become one more and more, right? I think finally, I just said, I'm gonna do it!”

“So my dad has served in the Marines for 32 years. My brother, Cameron, has served for 9 years.” Service runs deep in Zach’s family. While he initially considered following his brother’s path in intelligence, he later decided to pursue avionics. His family’s background in electrical engineering and working with machines influenced this choice.

While Zach has traveled all across the United States, he has always felt a calling to the see world. He has a strong desire to be stationed overseas, particularly in Japan or Okinawa, and would also love to explore Europe, inspired by his father’s time stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Rome.

Having recently sworn in, Zach feels more excited than nervous about boot camp. He thrives on challenges, both mental and physical, and looks forward to the demanding training.

“Don't be scared for a good challenge. Don't be scared about something that you are wanting to go into or you’ll want to follow you for the rest of your life.”
