Avalanche Mitigation: Bethel avalanche path, east of EJMT west of Silver Plume
❄️TRAVEL ALERT❄️ | Parking closed on the west side of Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels
Following the winter storms over Presidents Day weekend, #TeamCDOT crews are tracking increased avalanche activity on and around the I-70 Mountain Corridor and are working to clear roads and maintain safe travel. To keep travelers safe while the snow pack stabilizes, CDOT is closing the parking areas along the west side of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels.
🚛Over-sized trucks will be held and turned around periodically while I-70 is briefly stopped.
🛣The Loop Road above the west side of the EJMT will remain closed until avalanche risks are reduced and mitigation can be completed.

❄️ TRAVEL ALERT ❄️ | Treacherous Winter Conditions Along the I-70 Mountain Corridor
🎥 Video shows a natural avalanche at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 in Ten Mile Canyon, between Frisco and Copper Mountain (Colorado Avalanche Information Center - CAIC).
Heavy snow and high winds are creating hazardous travel conditions across much of Colorado’s high country, particularly in the northern half of the state. There is also a high avalanche danger on the I-70 Mountain Corridor passes.
Travelers should exercise caution and check COtrip.org frequently, as conditions and impacts are changing rapidly.
Areas impacted this afternoon include:
🔸I-70 Corridor (Vail to Denver) – Several areas along the corridor (Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel, Vail Pass, Floyd Hill) are experiencing white-out conditions, slick roads, and heavy traffic. I-70 Westbound is currently closed between Exit 232 (Empire Junction) and Exit 228 (Georgetown) due to multiple crashes.
🔸US 6 Loveland Pass – A safety closure continues due to snow and safety concerns.
⛓All CMV need to have tire chains or alternate traction devices across all mountain passes.
🛞All other vehicles should have adequate snow tires or tire chains in all mountain areas.

❄️ TRAVEL ALERT ❄️ | Treacherous Winter Conditions along the I-70 Mountain Corridor
🎥 Video of US 6 Loveland Pass at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, 2/15/25.
Another round of heavy snow and high winds are creating treacherous travel conditions for much of Colorado’s high country, especially the northern half of the state.
Travelers are urged to consider waiting out the storm with several safety closures implemented on interstates and highways. If you must travel, plan for delays due to closures and winter driving conditions.
Travelers should check COtrip.org frequently since changing conditions and impacts are occurring rapidly.
Areas impacted this afternoon include:
⚠️I-70 Corridor from Denver to Glenwood Springs - several areas along the corridor (Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnel, Vail Pass, Floyd Hill) are seeing white-out conditions
⚠️US 6 Loveland Pass - a safety closure continues due to snow and strong winds causing poor visibility as the video shows

I-25 north to the Wyoming state line - a southbound safety closure is in place
