Here is a message from Mayor Lowery regarding city crews picking up tree limbs starting tomorrow, March 17th. Please read the letter and make sure your limbs are as close to the curb as possible.

The City of Florissant is also working to provide dumpsters in the areas most affected by last night’s storms. These dumpsters are intended for storm-related debris such as damaged property (e.g., shingles, furniture, and similar items). Please note that tree limbs and yard debris should not be placed in these dumpsters.

As the sun sheds light on the damage from Friday’s severe weather, we’re getting a better look at the destruction left behind like these photos from Creve Coeur Park Soccer Complex. Please report damage to 211 so our Office of Emergency Management can send assessment teams out.

Please make sure to check on your neighbors. It’ll take some time for us to recover but in St. Louis County we’re always ready to lend a hand and we’ll get through this together!

SEVERE WEATHER ALERT - The National Weather Service is warning that this evening's storms could potentially produce tornado activity similar to what was experienced in St. Louis in 2011. This is a life-threatening situation.

Please be cautious if you are attending a fish fry, sporting activity, or other gathering.

If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911.

Otherwise during the storm, we ask citizens to avoid calling 911 for non-life threatening emergencies such as loss of power, down trees that are not threatening a life or the status of services like internet.

Please KEEP THE LINES CLEAR for true emergencies.

🚨 SEVERE WEATHER ALERT – TAKE ACTION NOW 🚨

📢 The National Weather Service has issued an urgent warning: St. Louis faces a very real threat of strong tornadoes and destructive storms this evening. This is a serious situation—please stay alert and be prepared to take shelter quickly.

🔴 WHY THIS STORM IS DANGEROUS:
✅ Potential for strong, long-track tornadoes
✅ High winds and large hail capable of causing severe damage
✅ Risk to large gatherings at fish fry's, gyms, and big-box structures where roof failures are common

📌 Remember:
➡️ St. Louis has experienced storms like this before—the Good Friday Tornado in 2011 and the Defiance Tornado in 2021 caused widespread destruction. Don’t wait until it’s too late to take action.
➡️ Our outdoor warning sirens will sound for tornado warnings AND destructive storms. Do not rely solely on sirens—have multiple ways to receive alerts!

🛑 WHAT YOU SHOULD DO NOW:
✔️ Stay weather aware—monitor alerts from trusted sources (NOAA Weather Radio, local news, emergency apps)
✔️ Have a safe place ready—a basement or interior room away from windows
✔️ If at a large gathering, make sure organizers have an emergency plan
✔️ Charge your devices and have an emergency kit on hand

⚠️ THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. BE READY. Help us spread the word and keep St. Louis safe!

When putting together my remarks for my State of the County, it didn't take long for me to realize that the focus should be on our employees and the work they do under the leadership of our department directors.

Yesterday, I was proud to shine a light on several our employees who come in each day, roll up their sleeves and work to make Saint Louis County a better place. I'm glad more people had a chance to appreciate all your hard work. Thank you for being part of the team.
