🚨SAFETY PSA🚨

While we are grateful the City of Clarksville has so many citizens willing to help those impacted by the flood, we encourage you to STAY OUT of the water for your own safety. The flood waters pose many dangers that may not be visible. If anyone needs assistance to safety, CFR has trained and equipped professionals ready to help 24/7.

If you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day by cooking at home and/or using candles, be sure to follow these tips from the National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®):

• Stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or broiling food.
• Have a "kid and pet-free zone" of at least 3 feet around the stove.
• Keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner.
• Set a timer to remind you that you are cooking.
• Don’t use lit candles in bedrooms, bathrooms, and sleeping areas.
• Use stable candle holders and place candles where they can’t be easily knocked over.
• Keep hair and loose clothing away from the flame.
• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Blow out candles when you leave the room or go to bed.

Clarksville Fire Rescue is deeply saddened to share the news of retired engineer Brent Bazzell's passing on Feb. 9th. He dedicated 32 years of his life to CFR, and many of us remember him as a steadfast presence at Station 4.

He may have been quiet at first, but those who knew him well understood his kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed.

BLACK HISTORY MOMENT: The theme for Black History Month 2025 is "African Americans and Labor," and we are celebrating all month by highlighting some of the incredible people that work for the City of Clarksville.

This week, we are highlighting Battalion Chief Kevin Finch. Chief Finch is in his 28th year with Clarksville Fire Rescue. He began as a firefighter in 1997 and has worked his way up the ranks, promoting to Battalion 2 Chief in November 2024.

“Every morning in my morning briefing I say, ‘Remember, we have the best job in the greatest nation, we’re American Firefighters.’ What we do is different than anybody else.

The bond and camaraderie we have on shift surmounts anything close to anybody else’s profession. We spend every third day of our career helping other people whether they live here, work here, or are visiting here. We give the best we’ve got to make whatever crisis they’re going through have a better outcome. Every time we come on shift, we get to make a positive difference in someone’s life. That can’t be beat.”

Congratulations again to Engineers Thomas Hebel and Miguel Ortiz who were recently promoted.

“I’m very excited and honored to get promoted. It’s a lot of responsibility, but I’m excited to have that responsibility of handling the safety of our personnel, the public, and our trucks themselves. I look forward to being another asset to the department,” said Hebel.

“This promotion means a lot to me because this position is a really important role. I love our apparatuses and what it all entails. It’s a machine on wheels and I just appreciate the tradition that comes with being an engineer. It’s a big opportunity and I’m glad to fill the role,” said Ortiz.
