Public Notice: Temporary AT&T Service Disruption

AT&T will be performing planned maintenance on a local cell tower from 2/20-2/21 & 2/26-3/1 which may impact service in our area. During this time, AT&T customers may experience reduced coverage or have their phones go into SOS mode.

What is SOS Mode?
When your phone displays SOS or SOS only, it means your device has lost a regular network connection but can still make emergency calls (911) using any available network.

We recommend planning ahead for potential service disruptions and using Wi-Fi for calls and messaging when possible. Thank you for your patience as this maintenance is completed!

Officer Swanson received a Letter of Commendation written by Chief Nelson and presented by Mayor Campbell at the most recent City Council Meeting. Over the summer months the Newport Police Department was dealing with a major staffing issue as one Officer retired, one Officer was in the academy, and one Officer was out on personal leave. That left the Chief and Officer Swanson available for patrol. Officer Swanson dedicated himself to the citizens of the City of Newport and the Police Department by going above and beyond his normal duties and requirements. Officer Swanson and Chief Nelson worked alternating shifts and both sacrificed their summer and time with their families to ensure that the City had adequate law enforcement coverage. Now that staffing is back to normal, Officer Swanson still goes above and beyond his duties acting as a supervisor when Chief Nelson is unavailable and as a Field Training Officer.
