‼️NEW APPARATUS ALERT ‼️
Presenting Squad 9!

Squad 9 is a 2024 Ford F550 crew cab chassis, 7.3 gas motor and an 11ft reading utility body.

This apparatus replaces Engine 5. The funding for this was from the sale of Engine 5 and the remainder was provided by the Town Of Barkhamsted with ARPA funds.

Squad 9 will have three main functions EMS, swift water,still water and ice rescues and brush fire responses.

Thank you to Hartford Truck Equipment, Inc. for the installation of the body, Pittsfield Communications Systems Inc. for the installation of the Whelen warning lights with core technology and Jared from Auto Trim Design of Torrington for the graphics.

Lastly thanks to the departments truck committee especially Captain Kulinski for the research, design and building of this apparatus over the last 2 years to best serve the residents of Barkhamsted.

Roads are icy and it’s getting colder. Do not drive unless you have to. Rt 20 is closed due to an accident.

Motor vehicle accident- Ripley Hill and Rt 44. Avoid the area. Ripley Hill is closed

PVFD and mutual aid departments were dispatched to Saville Dam Rd for a 1 car motor vehicle accident.

While volunteers were responding to the station a second call came in for a 1 car accident with entrapment on Rt 44 by the animal hospital.

R3 and E6 diverted to the Rt 44 accident along with Riverton Fire, Winsted Fire and Winsted EMS. The driver of this vehicle did not have any injuries.

PV Tac 5 along with Barkhamsted East, Riverton Fire and New Hartford ambulance handled the Saville Dam call. 1 person was transported with minor injuries.

Accident #2 RT 44 in the area is the animal hospital.

Please use caution if traveling these areas as responders work these incidents and if you don’t have to be on the roads please stay home.

‼️WINTER STORM WARNING ‼️
Winter storm Albatross is expected to drop 8-10 inches of snow in our area.

Members spent the morning chaining apparatus tires and checked and ran equipment in preparations for the storm. Always remaining ready for any emergency needing a response from our volunteers.

Also pictured a little teaser of new squad 9 which goes out this week for its finishing touches.

Last evening PVFD members took advantage of the colder temperatures and ice on West Hill lake to preform some training on cold water rescue emergencies.

Happy New Year! PVFD responded to 274 calls last year. Another record breaking year for the department.

PVFD has 19 dedicated volunteer members and 1 full time firefighter that serve the town of Barkhamsted and assist neighboring towns when called. They fill multiple capacities in the department from interior and exterior firefighters, drivers and fire police. These are all important roles in the department.

But PVFD is always in need of more volunteers to help step up and fill our ranks. If you are interested in volunteering and assisting the community, message us here for information. All training is paid for by the department.

Yesterday afternoon PVFD was dispatched to a residence on Fuller Rd for reported smoke in the basement. PV engine 6, rescue 3 and Riverton tanker 34 and engine 4 operated on scene while other mutual aid departments staged at town hall. The source of the smoke was from a chimney fire which stayed contained to the chimney. Units operated on scene for a little over an hour.

Eversource has to do a brief power cut this morning to make repairs. The outage should be brief less than 30 minutes.

Yesterday afternoon PVFD responded to the Riverton section of town for a reported car fire. Riverton’s chief arrived on scene and reported it as fully involved. E6 and R3 both responded and assisted Winsted and Riverton firefighters.

For the sixth year in a row the members of PVFD had the pleasure to step up and help spread some Christmas cheer! With donations from our members we were able to help support families in need with gifts this Christmas season. Happy Holidays to everyone!
