Thank you to Invenergy for joining us for a second workday late last month!
Their crew of five joined MHLC staff for three hours of challenging work at Bennett Hill on an unseasonably warm day. We improved the entry trail. A notable accomplishment for the day was hauling out an 11-foot, 525 lb. iron culvert pipe for disposal. The rest of the time was spent carrying in materials and rebuilding the bog boards along this stretch, digging out culverts, and generally improving the mud mitigation structures.

THANK YOU, SEAT Center students and staff, for all your hard work last Friday at MHLC's Bond Road property in Guilderland. (This new property will eventually be added to the existing Bozen Kill Preserve!) Among the projects completed during SEAT's Global Service Day were 70+ feet of bog boards installed over muddy areas on the trail and adding trail blazes to mark the new trail. Our staff and volunteers are SO impressed with your work and thankful for this amazing partnership!

It's #TrailCamTuesday! Check out this pileated woodpecker footage our executive director filmed last week. Here is a fun fact listed about this bird from the Audubon website: carpenter ants make up more than half of the Pileated Woodpecker's diet; they also eat nuts and fruits. Pileated Woodpecker numbers increase in areas with widespread emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle that kills ash trees, suggesting that Pileated Woodpeckers could be one of the strongest lines of defense to control non-native forest pests. These birds are amazing!
