Working New Yorkers asked for relief and Governor Kathy Hochul heard them. She’s proposing a huge expansion of the child tax credit – $1,000 per child under four, and $500 per child age 4-16.

This would be a game-changer for families struggling to make ends meet.

“It's important that communities have a range of housing types to address the needs of those experiencing homelessness, and this shelter will allow families to live together with dignity while they work to secure permanent housing,” OTDA Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn said. “We are pleased to support The Salvation Army of Buffalo, NY development and look forward to the completion of this shelter and the positive effect it will have on the community.”

With the cost of everything continuing to go up, too many New York families are struggling to pay for essentials like diapers, baby food or strollers.

That's why I'm fighting to TRIPLE New York's Child Tax Credit, giving parents up to $1,000 to support their kids.

"Fresh Start Apartments will provide safe and affordable housing for women who have experienced homelessness in Newburgh, along with supportive services that can help them stabilize their lives and their housing situation” said OTDA Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn. “This collaboration with RECAP and our state and local partners underscores the importance of all of us working together to expand the supply of supportive housing and strengthen communities throughout New York State.”

“Poverty is a reality that affects the lives of far too many children and their families, limiting their opportunities and potential,” said OTDA Commissioner Barbara C. Guinn. “Research shows that the focused support and assistance contained in these locally-driven anti-poverty initiatives—from rental subsidies, maternal health support, financial coaching, school attendance incentives, to cash assistance—are effective at improving family well-being and the economic security of children and families. We look forward to the implementation of these programs in Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse and are grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul for prioritizing an agenda that uplifts working families and makes our state more livable and affordable for all New Yorkers.”

Governor Hochul announced new steps to fight poverty in three communities that include some of the highest poverty rates in the state.
