TALISAY CITY GIHATAGAN UG AWARD SA DILG - GOOD FINANCIAL HOUSEKEEPING AWARD.

DILG’s Good Financial Housekeeping award aims to recognize LGU’s with good performance in financial transparency.

I am very thankful to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for awarding our city with the DILG SEAL OF GOOD HOUSEKEEPING FOR FISCAL YEAR 2021.

First of all, this award is a testament of what our Aksyon Agad leadership is all about: that we are a listening government, that we are transparent and accountable with what we spend to our constituents.

Second, this award is also a reply to our political opponents who claimed during the last campaign period that our administration allegedly mishandled government funds.

This award is a testament na nag tinarong tag pang gobyerno ug gi tarong nato ug gasto ang kwarta sa katawhan.

But last election has showed us that the people of Talisay didn’t believe all the black propaganda and negative campaigning aimed towards Team Alayon because they spoke, and Talisaynons spoke loudly.

Talisaynons Voted Straight for Team Alayon with a mayorship lead of more than 62,000 votes without losing in any of the our barangays.

Third, this award also goes to show that leadership and good governance cannot be done by one person.

Daghan ang nitabang para makab-ot nato ni nga ganti. Its not just the mayor, but also our department heads and our City Hall employees who contributed nga makuha nato ni nga award.

Finally, this award is also a testament to the honesty and dedication of your Talisay City LGU workers.

We have experienced a lot of hard times during my 1st term. This included the Covid-19 pandemic and then, Typhoon Odette. But despite that, our LGU workers and officials continue to work hard to serve our constituents.

As mayor of our city, I will assure you that our City government will be a listening, transparent and an accountable government.

So today is Ash Wednesday. Today is the start of my yearly tradition where I sacrifice some things that I love for the whole period of lent, which will end on Easter Sunday.

I was taught that during Lent you must try have a Lenten Sacrifice in which you give up certain luxuries to somewhat replicate what Jesus Christ sacrificed for us. But for the record, we will never come close to what Jesus did for us and how much he loved us.

Like last year, this year I will sacrifice by not eating pork, chicken, beef, rice and drinking soft drinks for the period of lent. I believe I have done this for the 5 to 6 years already. Kalimot nako 🙂

I will start that today and will end come Easter Sunday, April 17. That’s a total of 46 days.

What’s your Lenten Sacrifice? 🙏🙏🙏

St. Valentine, pray for us!
February 14

***
On February 14, around the year 270 A.D., Valentine, a holy priest in Rome in the days of Emperor Claudius II, is said to have been executed.

Under the rule of Claudius the Cruel, Rome was involved in many unpopular and bloody campaigns. The emperor had to maintain a strong army, but was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. Claudius believed that Roman men were unwilling to join the army because of their strong attachment to their wives and families.

To get rid of the problem, Claudius banned all marriages and engagements in Rome. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. Valentine was arrested and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. The sentence was carried out on February 14, on or about the year 270.

Legend also has it that while in jail, St. Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer’s daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it “From Your Valentine.”

For his great service, Valentine was named a saint after his death.

In truth, the exact origins and identity of St. Valentine are unclear. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, “At least three different Saint Valentines, all of them martyrs, are mentioned in the early martyrologies under the date of 14 February.” One was a priest in Rome, the second one was a bishop of Interamna (now Terni, Italy) and the third St. Valentine was a martyr in the Roman province of Africa.

Legends vary on how the martyr’s name became connected with romance. The date of his death may have become mingled with the Feast of Lupercalia, a pagan festival of love. On these occasions, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed. In 496 A.D., Pope Gelasius decided to put an end to the Feast of Lupercalia, and he declared that February 14 be celebrated as St. Valentine’s Day.

Gradually, February 14 became a date for exchanging love messages, poems and simple gifts such as flowers.
