Representation matters and is a critical component of inclusion. USAID has a decades-long commitment to advancing population data availability and accessibility, including key data regarding underserved communities. This high-quality population data deepens our understanding of the cultural contexts and needs of people based on who they are, where they live, and their unique personal experiences.
Advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights goes hand in hand with achieving gender equality. USAID is committed to helping create a more prosperous and peaceful world in which women and girls are empowered, and enjoy equal rights throughout their lives.
In the face of climate change, access to family planning becomes increasingly important to mitigating risks and adapting to a new reality.
What are Neglected Tropical Diseases? Dr. Atul Gawande Breaks It Down
What exactly are neglected tropical diseases? USAID's Dr. Atul Gawande breaks it down for us from the Philippines.
Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) create illness, cause disability, and rob people of opportunity. And too many people are stigmatized. But we envision a world 🌎 🌍 🌏 without NTDs and are partnering through our programs to beat them.
Today is World Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Day. To beat NTDs, we’re working alongside countries to: 🗺️ map disease, 💊 deliver treatments, and 📏 measure impact.
The good news? It’s working. 📢 13 USAID-supported countries have eliminated at least one NTD as a public health problem.
For 1️⃣8️⃣ years, USAID has worked alongside partners to fight Neglected Tropical Diseases. By preventing and treating for NTDs, individuals are less vulnerable to other diseases, children have improved school attendance, and communities have more opportunities for economic development.
Tomorrow is World Neglected Tropical Disease day. We believe a world without NTDs that disfigure and disable is possible!
How? By supporting countries as they lead 🏃♀️, plan ✔️, and take action 💪 to beat these diseases. We’re working with 26 countries to help beat NTDs.
Today, the Government of Laos has achieved an important success by eliminating the disabling disease lymphatic filariasis (also known as elephantiasis) as a public health problem. This Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) and others are major causes of disability, disfigurement, and lost opportunity. Congratulations to Laos for this achievement and for committing to end NTDs!

Access to voluntary family planning and reproductive health services is vital for safe motherhood and healthy families. In 2020, USAID - US Agency for International Development supported the procurement and distribution of more than 99.5 million contraceptives and commodities around the world.
