If you have donations for the shelter we ask that you please schedule a time to drop off. Imagine yourself seeking a safe, sober living environment that provides support and a longer term transitional housing situation allowing up to one year to work towards gaining self-efficacy and sufficiency. You

have hit rock bottom and are ready to take on the challenge of living life on life's terms and making a change. Maybe you have decided once and for all, to work on learning how to live a life substance free and have just completed an inpatient rehabilitation program or are enrolled in a diversion, drug court program. If this is part of your story, please consider reaching out to us and learn how to enroll in our Transitional Housing Programs. Our transitional housing is designed for people seeking a longer term transitional housing option for those with substance use disorders and those with substance use as a barrier. We offer structured programming with personal accountability measures to assist you in achieving goals you set for yourself in case management on your path to stability. Our facilities include a two-story well maintained home for single, adult females and a duplex for families with children with beautiful landscaping, friendly staff and volunteers, cozy furnishings and decorations. We have onsite food pantries and supply closets with personal care and household items for those first enrolling in our programs and needing that extra assistance. Becoming a residence in our transition housing program starts as a safe place where you receive food and shelter, but quickly becomes more. It becomes a place of learning and growing; a place where you receive compassion and care; a place to make healthy, positive connections within our resident community and without in the broader Franklin County community; a place that allows you to develop your strengths and challenge your weaknesses. The unique setting and environment of the FCWFS Transitional Housing Program provides a backdrop for women and families to build strong roots that help them flourish in life.

Franklin County Women and Family Shelter Transitional Housing Programs / Fresh Start Frankfort is doing incredible work providing transitional living for women and families right here in our community. I’m beyond grateful to facilitate a DBT group there, where the real magic happens—not just in the skills we practice but in the strength, wisdom, and resilience these women bring to the table. Every week, I’m reminded that teaching is a two-way street. They teach me just as much (if not more) about courage, growth, and the power of showing up for yourself. Honored to be a small part of their journey!

Our Story

Imagine yourself without a home, a job, a car, or money. You are dirty, scared, exhausted, and desperate. You go to to the homeless shelter expecting a sterile environment with cots lined up and little personality. Instead you arrive at a two-story well maintained home with beautiful landscaping, friendly staff and volunteers, cozy furnishings and decorations, and a cat. This house starts as a safe place where you receive food and shelter, but quickly becomes more. It becomes a place of learning and growing; a place where you receive compassion and care; a place that allows you to develop your strengths and challenge your weaknesses. This place becomes your home. The unique setting and environment of the Franklin County Women and Family Shelter (FCWFS) provides a backdrop for homeless single women and homeless families with children to build strong roots that help them become stable (physically, emotionally, financially) and flourish in life.
